Lazy Sunday in old town

Yong Siak street is located in the old neighbourhood of Tiong Bahru in Singapore, now becoming one the the hippest area in town {or in the world? – listed by Vogue as “coolest neighbourhood”}. But it’s not the reason why it gained my heart! Actually, Yong Siak is small and short, and you probably won’t need more than 5 minutes to walk up and down the street.

However, I always spend more than 5 minutes here, often the whole afternoon to be exact. I call this place “Magical Yong Siak”, because it has everything to sweeten my lazy Sundays in old town.

First of all, I would spend my time browsing through the collection that Books Actually has to offer. They have everything from fiction to literature about history, philosophy, art etc. If you like to read local authors, you will probably find the biggest choice here. This small independent publisher house is definitely one of my favourite spot in town. Just come on down and enjoy the good vibe, even if you don’t end up buying a book, you’ll see it’s hard not to fall in love with this place.

After that, I would head over to Plain Vanilla Bakery. I’ve heard local people say that they have the best cupcakes in town. And for sure they would easily beat a bunch of European pastries I know! The menu has simple recipes that we all know from our childhood {especially for Europeans!}, but being real artisans, they took them to the next level!

And what a lovely ambience exists here! Welcoming entrance, wooden and natural decorations small details here and there. It’s the perfect place to chill out with a good coffee and a slice of Rosmarin cake or to look over the new books you’ve just got from near by!

For brunch lovers, I recommend the Big Boy Breakfast {the smoked beef sausages are especially good!} from Forty Hands Cafe {on Yong Siak street}.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]

I’ll never be heading home without dropping by Crateful to grab some of the Ginger Cashew Cream for my next brunch. This place is heaven for anyone who loves good and healthy bites! They have premium almond muesli or organic cashew for nut-lover like me, but you will find other local gourmet delights to discover as well!

They have great salads, pizzas and pastas as well! My personal recommendation: Aglio Olio with ham and mushroom! {pic below}[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_single_image image=”21254″ border_color=”grey” img_link_large=”yes” img_link_target=”_blank” img_size=”large”][vc_separator color=”grey”][vc_column_text]Here are some impressions of the charming neighbourhood.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”21485″ border_color=”grey” img_link_large=”yes” img_link_target=”_blank” img_size=”large”][vc_single_image image=”21507″ border_color=”grey” img_link_large=”yes” img_link_target=”_blank” img_size=”large”][vc_single_image image=”21503″ border_color=”grey” img_link_large=”yes” img_link_target=”_blank” img_size=”large”][vc_single_image image=”21487″ border_color=”grey” img_link_large=”yes” img_link_target=”_blank” img_size=”large”][vc_single_image image=”21515″ border_color=”grey” img_link_large=”yes” img_link_target=”_blank” img_size=”large”][vc_single_image image=”21504″ border_color=”grey” img_link_large=”yes” img_link_target=”_blank” img_size=”large”][vc_single_image image=”21509″ border_color=”grey” img_link_large=”yes” img_link_target=”_blank” img_size=”large”][vc_single_image image=”21513″ border_color=”grey” img_link_large=”yes” img_link_target=”_blank” img_size=”large”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_single_image image=”21511″ border_color=”grey” img_link_large=”yes” img_link_target=”_blank” img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]

Thanks Lisa! I’m also very glad we have an area like this in Singapore!
